Monster Chinook Released in Rivers Inlet

Rivers Inlet, British Columbia

Rivers Inlet is famous for its prolific salmon runs. Once upon a time, dozens of river systems up and down the coast produced plentiful, healthy salmon runs. However, unfortunately, the impact of us humans has taken its toll on many of those. Through dams, resource exploitation, pollution, and overfishing, our footprint has squashed many historically great salmon runs. Rivers Inlet, however, seems to have escaped the same fate and is now one of the last unspoilt ecosystems. The privilege to be able to experience it is not something to be taken lightly.

Unspoiled Scenic Beauty in British Columbia

Rivers Inlet Fishing Experience

Here are some of the key aspects that make Rivers Inlet fishing an experience of a life time:

  1. Trophy Chinook Salmon: The region is particularly renowned for its trophy-sized Chinook salmon, often referred to as "Tyee's" These fish can reach impressive sizes, making Rivers Inlet a prime destination for anglers looking to hook into a prized catch.

  2. Abundant Salmon Populations: Rivers Inlet is famous for its prolific salmon runs, including Chinook (king), Coho, pink, sockeye, and chum salmon. The sheer abundance of salmon in these waters provides anglers with a high likelihood of successful catches.
  3. Remote Wilderness Setting: Rivers Inlet is situated in a remote, pristine wilderness area on the central coast of British Columbia. The untouched natural beauty of the surroundings, including dense forests, rugged coastline, and diverse wildlife, offers a unique and tranquil backdrop for fishing excursions.

  4. Minimal Fishing Pressure: Due to its remote location, Rivers Inlet sees less fishing pressure compared to more accessible areas. This contributes to the preservation of healthy fish populations and ensures a more exclusive and peaceful fishing experience.

  5. Sheltered Waters: Unlike many other areas where catching salmon means braving the wide open ocean. In Rivers Inlet, you can catch your trophy mere feet away from the shoreline, in waters that more resemble a lake than the great pacific ocean.

  6. Preserving Genetics: It's the unique genes of the chinook returning to the Wonnock and Chuckwalla rivers that cause the fish we can catch in Rivers Inlet to grow to such enormous sizes. In order to preserve these extremely valuable genetics, we release any large (30+ pound) salmon caught in Rivers Inlet that are not mortally wounded.

  7. Sustainable Practices: We are committed to sustainable fishing practices, preserving the health of the marine ecosystem and ensuring that future generations can enjoy these abundant waters. Through a combination of hatchery and habitat restoration efforts, we earmark a portion of every trip's revenue to preserve this amazing place.

  8. Indigenous Culture: River's Inlet is home to the Wuikinuxv First Nation. With their village nestled right against the famous Wonnock River, these stewards of the land have gone to tremendous lengths to preserve the habitat of the last great salmon run on earth. Through help from you, us, and other lodges, the Nation manages the Percy Walkus Hatchery, releasing 300,000 baby Chinook salmon every year. The results: returns and catches in Rivers Inlet have been steadily improving in recent history.

These unique qualities combine to make Rivers Inlet a special and highly-regarded fishing destination for those seeking not only remarkable fishing experiences but also an opportunity to immerse themselves in the unspoiled beauty of British Columbia's coastal wilderness.
